Sophie Turner Reveals REAL Culprit Behind Her Mental Health Struggles

Everything in Sophie Turner’s life might be going great right now as she prepares for her upcoming wedding with the famous singer, Joe Jonas this Summer, the renowned actress reveals it took her a long time to feel better about herself.

Despite living in fame and limelight, thanks to her notable role as Sansa Stark in the epic fantasy series, Game of Thrones, Turner shared how she struggled with depression for years. Turner finally speaks up about her mental health struggles and why everyone can relate to the culprit behind it.

The Interview

In an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw on Podcast, the 23-years old renowned GOT actress Sophie Turner revealed she suffered from depression for six years. The biggest challenged she faced was getting out of her bed and house to face the day. She also struggled with accepting and loving herself.

Sophie Turner also suffered from an identity crisis as she got torn between continuing her soaring career or pursuing university life.

While Turner was thankful for her soaring career, thanks to her role in Game of Thrones, she suffered an identity crisis (which triggered her depression) as she was left torn between living a normal life and working as a rising star.

The Culprit

The rise of social media also exacerbated her mental health condition. She often saw her high school friends enrolling in universities, pursuing their dream courses, and bonding with their college friends.

Meanwhile, she had to give up education for her career and was still living in her parent’s house. It made her feel so alone and completely isolated.

The actress also suffered from cyberbullying as the online users trolled her for her terrible acting skills, which exacerbated her depression.

Aside from that, the GOT actress admitted she got trolled on her social media often, who criticized her appearance and allegedly “terrible acting skills.” She used to get comments about her skin, her weight, and how she wasn’t a good actress. Some users even said her character wouldn’t survive long in the series.

The Struggle

The comments she received certainly affected her mental health. Turner started questioning her worth and credibility as an actress. She also got paranoid about making public appearances and interacting with people due to her insecurities.

While the battle was long and hard (just like what her character and the Winterfell family had endured), Turner says she had recovered from depression and is a better place now.

The Recovery

Turner reveals she overcomes her depression thanks to a recipe of medication, self-love, therapy, and positive affirmation from her beloved fiance who never fails to support her and express his affections every day.

If someone tells you they love you every single day and remind you of your redeeming qualities, Turner says it’s easier to gain more confidence and not to be too hard on yourself.

Aside from practicing self-love, Turner also learned to reduce the amount of time she spent on social media in order to ignore the destructive criticisms about her.
