The Real Reason Why Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child  Checked Into a Mental Health Facility

When you’re struggling with depression, it feels as if there’s no hope for you and that the best way is to take the easy path of just ending your misery. If you’re looking for a living proof that there are better days ahead of the dark times, then look no further than Michelle Williams, one of the members of the former girl group Destiny’s Child, who revealed how she grappled with a mental health issue in the past year.

Rollercoaster Ride

Looking back, Michelle’s 2018 was quite an unpredictable ride that no one, even she, did not see coming. In March last year, fans of the singer celebrated after she was engaged to pastor Chad Johnson and by November, everyone was delighted to hear that she was cast as Erzulie for the Broadway production of the Tony Award-winner “Once on this Island.”

However, things took a sharp turn in December when she called off her engagement to the man of her dreams and when she was forced to quit her Broadway play following her doctors’ advice. The reason behind these things was depression, which she has been battling with since she was 13. When everything hit her, Michelle felt it was the end of the line for her so much so that she didn’t think she would still be alive today.

A Couple of Blows

Michelle admitted in an interview that she was deeply depressed with wedding planning and by July last year, she sought treatment. The 38-year-old also couldn’t believe that her mental health concern is crippling once more despite her love life and an active lifestyle. Although she revealed that she didn’t think of taking her own life, she said she had questioned her life.

Michelle Williams learned during her time with Destiny’s Child that you need to push yourself even when you’re sick

While shooting for her “Chad Loves Michelle” show, she suddenly felt she wanted to get back to Broadway big time, thinking she could handle everything all at once. So with everything on her plate, Michelle got overwhelmed and by her first “Once on this Island” rehearsals, she was already empty. But from what she was taught during her Destiny’s Child days, you need to perform even though you’re sick because people paid for a performance.

In her almost two decades of career, Michelle admitted she just missed one show, which sounds impressive. But that certainly came with a caveat – if you keep pushing yourself and pushing yourself, she explained, you might end up giving up something precious.

Finding Peace

As of now, Michelle is in a better place, but that happened because she dug deep in order to find peace within. She clarified that she is far from perfect but she is sticking to her routine because it works for her. The artist went on to confirm that there really are better days ahead although it would really take some time.

The singer advised others going through a rough time to talk to a therapist

For those who are facing the same situation, Michelle advised to not shut the pain out and instead find the inner strength to motivate yourself to get up because sometimes people don’t know what to say. She also recommends seeking professional help.
