Tips On How To Boost Your Memory

Do you remember your boss’ instructions? Do you remember the rules to follow as the teacher instructed? How does it feel when you’ve forgotten your wife’s birthday or your parent’s anniversary? It feels awful to forget something that is supposed to mean a lot, right? Stop beating yourself up; it is time to learn how to improve your memory.

Brain function is high in early adulthood, but it slowly declines with age. At times, age may come with memory lapses.  One factor that contributes to memory loss is the lifestyle we lead today, which is associated with irregular sleeping habits, stress, chemicals and the toxins we take in.

Get this and weep no more! You can support your brain’s health and grow new neurons in a process that is called neurogenesisThe memory center of the brain, the hippocampus, can grow and regenerate. Yes, even when you are a hundred-year-old. The hippocampus needs help doing this, though. The help needed is based on an individual’s lifestyle.

Here are the ways to improve your memory:

Eat right TO BE BRIGHT

Your food intake is important as so is the food you choose not to take. See, there are nutrients that the body needs because it cannot produce them on its own be produced by us or simply it has them in low amounts. Broccoli, walnuts, and cauliflower can protect the health of the brain and stimulate the production of new cells in the brain.

Let’s break the myth that fats are bad. Not all of them. Some fats, the healthy ones, are required by the body.

Coconut oil is great fat for the function of the brain. Two tablespoons coconut oil would give the body enough medium-chain triglycerides or MCTs that prevent degenerative neurological diseases or treat an already existing condition.

Taking an increased amount of animal-based omega- 3 fat and the reduction of omega- fat like processed vegetable oils to balance omega-3 and omega-6 is important. Krill is better than fish oil because it contains astaxanthin, which protects omega-3 fats from oxidation and proves to have benefit in the brain’s health.

IT IS WISE TO EXERCISE

Exercising is not only good in giving you a good figure. It promotes the brain to work at its optimum capacity by stimulating nerve cell multiplication, strength, and protection.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor triggers other chemicals to promote brain health and activates cognitive functions. A study on primates revealed that exercising regularly improves blood flow to the brain. Monkeys that exercised reacted and learned new task faster than the non-exercising counterparts.

MULTITASKING IS A NO!

Life is so fast-paced nowadays that people are getting used to thinking they can do several tasks at a time. In fact, as many tasks as possible. However, attempting to do a lot of things can actually make your work prone to mistakes and make you forget things.

Studies have shown that you need 8 seconds to process information to your memory. Mindfulness helps you to have undistracted focus, leading your thoughts to have undivided attention. People who attended a mindfulness class showed an improvement in comprehensive reading scores, experienced less distracting thoughts, and increased capacity in memory.

When faced with multiple tasks, stop and try to focus on one task at a time. Try to remind yourself that they are just projections and allow them to pass by then. End it by meditating for 15 minutes.

Re-evaluate your SLEEPING HABITS

Harvard research shows that people are 33 percent more likely to conclude a connection to distantly related ideas after having enough sleep. Sleep improves your performance and can make an impact on how you think the following morning. This is also true to infants’ sleeping habits as sleep boosts their brain. It gives them a better chance to recognize patterns and process new information.

GAME OF BRAINS

Challenge your brain every now and then. New information, trivia questions will keep the brain active. On the other hand, doing otherwise will slow its functioning. Stimulating the brain can counteract degeneration.

Since modern technology has taken over, you can try and download applications that could activate and exercise your brain. Take about 2o minutes a day to interact with it. Make sure that the specific task does not last more than 7 minutes since spending longer time lessens the benefit. The primary benefits occur in the first five to six minutes of the task.

“Through using our memory to its fullest, we can unlock the vast reservoir of human potential that isn’t currently being used.”-—  Tony Buzan
