Bebe Rexha Fearlessly Admits She Has This SERIOUS Mental Health Illness
In a heart-wrenching interview, the Nickelodeon star Bebe Rexha reveals she has been diagnosed with a serious mental health disorder.
While other celebrities often feel ashamed or embarrassed to discuss any issues of mental health illness, Rexha is breaking the mold by fearlessly disclosing her diagnosis with her fans.
Here’s how Rexha is coping with her mental health struggles and what we can learn from her.
The Confession
Last Monday, Rexha shared a series of Tweets that shocked her fans. The renowned singer/songwriter told her followers that she had been feeling sick for the longest time but couldn’t really understand what was wrong with her.
There were times where the singer felt low and didn’t want to leave her house or socialize with anybody. But then she would have a sudden change in mood and feel an insane urge to communicate with people.
Rexha admitted that when she was feeling high on energy and excitement, she would work on creating new music non-stop, to the point where she sometimes forgot to sleep.
After her medical consultation, Rexha finally discovered she has a bipolar disorder which explained the mood swings, and she’s not ashamed of it.
The New Album
Following her shocking announcement, Rexha revealed that she’s going to share more about her disorder, her struggles, and her therapy in her upcoming album.
The singer says she’ll be very honest on this album and she won’t hold herself back. Her fans can expect to get to know her more as they’ll see her thoughts and feelings laid out in the open through her music.
While Rexha was ecstatic to the replies she received from her fans showing their support, the singer reiterates they don’t have to feel sorry for her. Instead, she asks for their love and acceptance as she faces this emotional chapter in her life.
According to health experts, bipolar disorder is a type of mental health illness stemming from depression.
This disorder has some peculiar symptoms like mood swings, extreme changes in energy levels and behavior, and difficulty in falling asleep.
The renowned psychologist Gwen Kesten urges Rexha to seek professional help and undergo therapy to recover from this illness.
Other Celebrities With Bipolar Disorder
According to health experts, this isn’t the first time a celebrity suffers from bipolar disorder. The renowned singer Mariah Carey came out with her bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2001.
At the time, the singer assured her fans that she was fine and didn’t need professional help. But a few years down the road, she decided to seek treatment after dealing with issues related to work and personal affairs.
Mel Gibson also revealed he had bipolar disorder after releasing a documentary in 2008. The renowned actor admitted his illness was the culprit behind his violent act of berating a police officer after he got arrested for drunk driving in 2006.
