These GoT Actors Submitted Their Names for Emmy Nominations Because HBO Forgot To

They say that sometimes, you just need a little push from people you trust to get things going. Although the axiom sounds cliche, it certainly is true on many levels.

You’ll often face moments when you don’t feel as confident as you should, and thanks to our reliable pals, it is easier to pick ourselves back up. But what if no one is around to give you that little boost that you need to get what you deserve?

In that case, it makes sense to take matters into your own hands just like what some of the cast of Game of Thrones did when they submitted their names for Emmy consideration because the producers completely forgot to.

Game of Thrones’ Charm

The HBO hit show, which was based on George RR Martin’s novel A Song of Ice and Fire and was no doubt a highly acclaimed show, wrapped up in May after eight seasons, with the finale receiving mixed reactions.

In its run, a lot of people got hooked and entertained despite the violence and the gore. Despite this, it has catapulted a few of its cast members to stardom, including Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark and now stars as Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise, and Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark.

Submission of Own Names

With such a successful series, it is only logical that it earned the attention of award-giving bodies. But as with other shows, not all of the names could be submitted for consideration.

Recently, Gwendoline Christie, who played Brienne of Tarth; Alfie Allen, Theon Greyjoy; and Carice van Houten, Melisandre, got nominated for the Emmys, a decision that shocked many.

But no one is as surprised as the show’s awards campaign team, who admitted that they had no idea about this move. Apparently, the trio decided to take matters into their own hands and submitted their names to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In the process, they had to pay $225 each for the entry fee.

HBO Nominations

HBO entered Sophie, Maisie, and Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister, for supporting actress category, and all of them got a nomination. Joining the roster is Gwendoline, whose application was approved as well.

Alfie, meanwhile, is nominated for best supporting actor in a drama series, along with the network’s bets, Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister). Carice got an Emmy nod for best guest actress in a drama series.

Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington are both nominated for the lead categories

The network also submitted Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), who had received multiple accolades and previous nods for her stellar performance in Game of Thrones, for the lead actress category, while Kit Harington for the lead actor.

Logic

It may sound like HBO is a bad guy for not submitting their names, but just imagine the number of talented stars in the show.

As for the trio’s initiative, CNBC’s Suzy Welch highlights that it’s essential to advocate yourself for a promotion, to get a raise, or to nail a job interview. The Hollywood Reporter predicts that the team behind the series was afraid of overcrowding categories.

It also noted that submitting Gwendoline and Alfie’s names specifically could hurt the chances of the strongest contenders in the respective categories. Nevertheless, Game of Thrones achieved an impressive feat of getting 32 nods for its last season.
