The Power of Keto? Find out Which Kardashian Claims She Successfully Used It to Perform a Metal Detox

The keto diet is one of the most famously applied diets out there. Keto is the short form of the word ketosis or ketogenic. Which in turn, refers to a diet containing about 90% of essential fats, about 2% to 5% carbs, and 10% to 20% of proteins.

The ketogenic diet also involves intermittent fasting, which refers to periods of going (about 16 hours) without eating anything.

The Keto affair

Essentially, the main objective of Keto is to jumpstart the body into a kind of starvation mode, whereby the body opts to burn fat instead of glucose. Interestingly, the diet was originally used as a treatment for patients with epilepsy because it was found to have a positive effect on neurons found in the brain, hence reducing the frequency of seizures.

Today, the diet has become extremely popular. So it’s no surprise the likes of A-list celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian practice it frequently. Yep! In fact, in one of her April posts on her app, the Kardashian talked about the few months she spent strictly following the keto diet, in which she labeled as one of the most positive experiences she had in her life.

The mother of three further went on to state that her doctor had recommended keto to her in order to help her get a metal detox. Which begs the question; is there any truth behind her diet successfully resulting in a metal detox?

Breaking it down

Divulging deeper into her article, the Kardashian stated that she consumed minimal carbs, plus also learned to get creative with substitutes like spaghetti squash, consumed more lean proteins, as well as ate vegetables. Moreover, the Kardashian went on to state that she consumed almost no grains, legumes, or even beans, which meant that she cut out important food groups containing nutrients such as fiber.

In addition to that, her post did not mention any fruits (apart from the avocado and banana smoothies), though it is common for most people to eliminate such food groups from their plate when undertaking the keto diet.

Keto and metal detox

So, now trying the detox angle to the equations. In a post last year, Kardashian had stated that her doctor had discovered abnormally high levels of metals such as lead and mercury in her system, which inspired her to undertake the keto diet to detoxify.

That being said, there is a lot of skepticism regarding such an event occurring due to the fact that not a lot of research has been conducted to prove that truly the keto diet does reduce the concentration of metals in the body.

However, there are still plenty of reasons why the keto diet is one great diet to incorporate. In fact, ongoing research around the diet is groundbreaking, with MDs like David Ludwig, one of the directors at the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital, confident of findings in areas such as type 2 diabetes and obesity.

The health experts reveal that eating the right foods can help lift up your mood.

Dr. Ludwig does recommend that if one truly wants to lower mercury levels in the body, then they should avoid eating fish that normally have high concentration, such as swordfish, shark, and tuna. However, this doesn’t mean that they should ditch fish foods entirely.
