Want To Go On The Ketogenic Diet For Weightloss? Here’s Three Reasons Why You Should Think About It

According to a survey, the ketogenic diet has become the first choice of people when it comes to weight loss plans. Many celebrities, including Mama June, Halle Berry, and Jenna Jameson, are following the ketogenic diet to lose weight. This diet includes cutting out carbs in order to burn fat instead of sugar for energy.

Some doctors recommend going keto to help in treating epilepsy. Recent studies have proven that this diet alters genes linked to energy metabolism in the brain, helping preserve the function of neurons that are exposed to the challenges of epileptic seizures.

But even though the ketogenic diet looks promising, several specialists are voting against it because of its possible damage to health if you don’t do it the right way and unsustainable nature. With all these in mind, here are three things to consider if you’re planning to drop some weight through the keto diet.

All about the keto flu

Many people had reported that when they started this diet, they felt a slight sickness. Nutritionists call this the keto flu, which may sometimes cause people to vomit, or suffer from gastrointestinal distress or may feel tiredness. This passes after a few days and can be cured easily by drinking lots of water and getting a reasonable amount of sleep.

The keto flu happens because the body is transitioning from burning sugar to burning fat as its energy resource. Once your body is primarily using ketones and fat to fuel you up, that’s when you reach the state called ketosis. Your brain and other organs are just getting used to adapting to this new fuel source.

It may cause diarrhea

Running to the washroom more often than usual while you are on a keto diet is quite possibly the most dangerous thing to look out for. Don’t worry. You are not alone in this. Many people have complained that while on the keto diet, they experienced diarrhea.

One suffers from diarrhea while following the keto diet because the diet cuts back fiber and carbohydrates. This can also happen due to their intolerance of dairy food or artificial sweetness. Unfortunately, there are unlucky folks who experience keto diarrhea as a permanent side effect of the diet.

It can lead to reduced athletic performance

Some athletes use the ketogenic diet not only for weight loss but also for enhanced performance in their sports activities. Athletes in ketosis can operate well at a steady endurance pace for long hours while burning fewer calories than their carbohydrate-dependent competitors.

However, a recent study also showed that people who cut out carbs from their life for four days performed worse than the people who added carbs into their life. As a result, ketosis may only work for the kind of athletes who continuously grapple with gastric distress at ultradistance events. But for others who don’t suffer from this condition, the case may not be the same.
