Health Benefits Of Beets You Must Know About
People often say that consuming fruits and vegetables every single day in any form will make you even healthier for the long run. Almost every vegetable is packed with tons of nutrients that will benefit the body, but there is a catch because not every vegetable taste good.
It is most likely the reasons why most people, especially children find it so difficult to eat it. One of the most common vegetables that are known for tasting not so great would be beets. However, despite that it is actually packed with tons of essential vitamins and minerals and it also has some medicinal properties into it. Here are a couple of benefits you can get from eating beets.
Best For Your Diet and Weight Loss
What most people don’t know is that beets are not just healthy, they can easily be added to your diet as well. For those who don’t like the actual taste of it, beets can be juiced, steamed, roasted, pickled and shredded on to your meals especially on your salad. There are some beets in the market that can be bought precooked or even canned. Dietitians believe that some of the best ways to eat beets are incorporating it to your salad or coleslaw, it can also be blended with Greek yogurt that will serve as a healthy dip, or better yet add it to your juice.
However, one of the greatest things about beets is that it is so good for weight loss. That is because this particular root crop is low in calories and at the same time it has a high water content. Beets also have moderate amounts of both protein and fiber, which are basically the keys to having a healthier body and will help you achieve your ideal weight. Fiber from the beets will make you reduce your appetite and usually gives you that feeling of fullness.
Good For Brain Health and Prevents Cancer
It is a fact that with age comes the decline of the mental and cognitive function of the brain and this usually results to conditions like dementia or Alzheimer’s disease because of the reduction of blood flow as all well as the oxygen supply from the body. This is where beets come into the picture because it contains nitrates that improve the mental function of the brain, which means the blood flow will become normal especially on the frontal lobe.
Beets do not just help the brain though, because it also prevents cancer cells to grow uncontrollably. Beets contain a good amount of antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory effects and these two will be able to prevent cancer. One experiment from it was when beets extract was given to an animal and the animal’s tumor reduced in size.
Another experiment also showed how human cells got affected by the beets extract, and it turned out that the betalain pigments from the beets help reduce the growth of breast cancer and prostate cancer cells.
Improve Your Digestive Health and Fight Inflammation
Another great thing about beets is that it is good for your stomach because of its dietary fiber, it was mentioned earlier that it is good for the overall weight loss diet which also means that when it comes to improving your digestion, you can count on it as well. This will most likely make you feel less bloated and of course, it will help you prevent your body from being constipated. Not every vegetable can do this which is why beets are definitely special in its own way.
Beets can also help you fight inflammation, which is usually associated with other diseases such as liver cancer, heart disease, and even obesity. People usually think that eating healthy is enough, but what they don’t usually realize is that they must figure out what kind of vegetables they need hence it is always ideal to go to a dietitian.
However, studies about the benefits of the vegetables that you eat or what you would like to eat will help you be knowledgeable on what exactly do you think your body needs the most, instead of just consuming whatever you wish.
