Berries And Their Health Benefits
Fruits like berries are excellent. They can be added to salads, drinks, desserts, or other dishes like pancakes. You can still enjoy eating them by themselves because they are just so delicious. Berries, as you’ve probably realized by now, also have a variety of health advantages.
As much as 50% more antioxidants can be found in berries with dark skin, such as blueberries, boysenberries, and elderberries, compared to those with lighter skin. Antioxidants, such as vitamin C, aid in the defense against free radicals (scavenger molecules that damage healthy cells in your body). Berries can improve urinary tract health, fight certain malignancies, and support healthy aging.
With that said, here are five berries you should try to eat every day; if not every day, then make them a part of your weekly routine:
Raspberries
Raspberries contain a lot of melatonin in addition to being delicious. Your healthy and regular sleep cycles depend on this hormone. Your body normally makes it in reaction to light levels (it increases in the evening), but outside sources can aid if you aren’t consistently exposed to sunlight. Raspberries are one of the best sources because one gram of them contains 387 nanograms of melatonin. Additionally, these delightful little snacks provide a lot of vitamin C. According to recent studies, those who are deficient in this vitamin have a propensity to sleep less and wake up more frequently at night.
Blueberry & Cranberry
Both the berries and their juice help prevent and treat recurrent bladder and urinary tract infections and for reducing inflammation. They have D-mannose and a potent antioxidant called proanthocyanidin (PAC), which can stop germs from adhering to the walls of the urinary system. Compared to cranberries, blueberry is simpler to prepare and digest. A supplement containing PAC or D-mannose would be a better choice for folks who don’t enjoy or can’t digest cranberries.
Cherries
Cherries are rich in ellagic acid and quercetin. There is evidence that this antioxidant flavonoid supports the health of cells and tissues. Anthocyanins and bioflavonoids are also abundant in cherries, which are linked to easing joint and muscle pain. Melatonin, a crucial natural hormone linked to healthy sleep patterns and preserving young, is also found in cherries.
Goji Berry
The “wolfberries” or “goji berries,” which are abundant in antioxidants, are frequently referred to as “superfoods.” They enhance the quality of your sleep, among other health advantages. Goji berries have long been used to address mental issues, such as anxiety, which can interfere with sleep. These berries’ high magnesium and thiamine content contribute to their effectiveness (vitamin B1). According to studies, drinking goji juice regularly can help you feel calmer, more focused, and sleep better.
Aronia berries
Chokeberries are dark purple berries that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. As a result, scientists are investigating whether they can aid in the prevention of colon, breast, skin, and cervical cancers. Researchers are also investigating whether Aronia berries can help prevent obesity, liver and heart disease. In the store, look for them frozen or fresh. As an alternative, tea that is flavored with Aronia is another option worth considering.
